Bring a Historic Community Space Back to Life

By DUNK Admin

In Jamestown, one of Accra’s oldest coastal communities, an 18th-century underground space once linked to Ussher Fort and the Jamestown Lighthouse now serves as a safe hub for children and youth. Today, this historic site is deteriorating. Without urgent restoration, both its heritage value and its role as a community space for 300+ young people are at risk. If nothing is done, Jamestown could lose both a heritage site and a vital community space. DUNK Grassroots is restoring and securing this centre—while preserving its historic structure. Once renovated, the space will safely host sports, education, and cultural programs for girls and boys, challenging gender norms and building confidence, leadership, and resilience. Every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to restoring this historic space and empowering the next generation of Jamestown leaders. Together, we can protect heritage, create opportunity, and build a stronger Jamestown.
