ABOUT DUNK

DUNK (Developing Unity, Nurturing Knowledge) was co-founded on 23rd November 2010 by Mohammed Tahir, driven by a passion for sports. The idea was born from Mohammed’s personal experience of exploitation as a young athlete in Ghana, where opportunities abroad were often promised but rarely delivered.

What began as a small social initiative to support young talents at the risk of potential exploitation quickly gained momentum. With growing community interest and impact, DUNK in 2012/2013 expanded its reach to three neighbourhoods in Accra and refugee camps in Ghana’s Western Region. Utilising underused spaces—such as abandoned lots, community car parks, and even private properties—”we created spaces for youth to play and used it as an incentive for youth to stay in school.”

DUNK today has impacted thousands of young people with access to sports, education, and life skills, establishing itself as a trusted grassroots presence in the communities we serve.
